Well, the cat is out of the bag.
Councilman Kashmann brought forth the initial idea of Citywide Broadband at the City Council Policy Meeting a couple of days ago over the lunch hour. What was initially slated for 10 minutes of talking time turned into over 30 minutes of great conversation and support for the initiative. Whether it was city council members discusses their own experiences with unreliable, monopolistic companies or describing how 68% of their district does not have internet at all, it was a fantastic meeting.
All-in-all, it was very refreshing to hear how open to the ballot initiative city council members were. There is still a lot of ground to cover in order to get this to be a referred measure, but, we will work with city council members to move quickly. All the while answering any questions that they may have with such an initiative.
Keep an eye out for more frequent blog posts, op-eds, and other presentations that you can share with your networks over the forthcoming weeks and months.
